This year Kentucky has increased it's Elk quota hunt to 400 permits, 100 bull tags and 300 cow tags. Plus one additional bull tag and one additional cow tag for youth hunters under the age of 16. Hunters are drawn randomly by computer for the quota hunt and must apply for the drawing.
Resident and non-resident hunters may apply wherever Kentucky hunting and fishing licenses are sold, by telephone at 1-877-598-2401 or online at the Kentucky Department Fish & Wildlife website.

Kentucky Elk Restoration Zone
Kentucky's elk herds are located in the eastern and southeastern portions of the state, within a sixteen county Elk Restoration Zone. The elk zone is broken up into what the Department of Fish & Wildlife call's "Elk Hunting Units (EHU's)". Hunters that are drawn can hunt the public hunting areas within their EHU or seek out permission from landowners to hunt the private land within their EHU.
